Winnipesaukee Radio Controllers
Monthly Meeting Minutes
May 4, 2025
1. The meeting opened 15 minutes late at 10:15 Am due to technical problems
with the Zoom Meeting software and/or hardware.
2. The meeting was opened by the President, Kevin Folley, and the Pledge of
Allegiance to the flag was recited.
3. The Treasurer, Tom Goss, gave the check book balances. As of the last
meeting, the check book balance was $4,055.19. There was $216.00
collected in dues and raffle proceeds. There were no expenses for the
month leaving a present balance of $4,271.19 in the check book.
4. The Secretary, Roy Pierce, brought faa.gov map printouts of the area
showing that the area’s major airports have restricted air space umbrellas
around them. (such as Concord and Portland) Laconia does not have an air
space umbrella around its airport. This must be the reason that we have
been given clearance to fly our UAV’s to as high as 1200 feet. This, even
though Laconia airport is only 6.5 miles away from our field. Our field is
well marked on the faa.gov map as a FRIA and is not in the direct approach
to the airport.
5. Next, the Secretary also brought up that the five-year nonprofit filing that
he filed with the state was rejected by the state. Apparently, along with
officers we must also have directors. It was discussed by the members that
the officers should also be the club’s directors. A vote for this was
motioned, seconded and approved by a unanimous vote. The Secretary will
resubmit the state form listing the officers also as directors.
6. The Secretary next noted that we now have 43 paid members, 7 unpaid
members, 3 interested parties, and 1 lifetime member. The unpaid members
have been given 30-day notice to re-join or have their name taken off of the
roster.
7. It was mentioned by Andy Ackerman that our member Frank Martin has
passed away and that he should be removed from our roster.
8. The field rules for both the Flying Field and the Racetrack Field that have
been worked on over the winter were gone over one more time and voted
on. They passed unanimously. The Secretary will print them, then get them
enlarged, laminated, and posted at the field.
9. After discussion as to how we should move forward with the Auto
Racetrack improvements, it was decided to set up a Racetrack Committee
of Auto Racers. They should meet and determine what they want to
accomplish with the track and present their proposal to the club at the next
meeting. Jay Massei was appointed the head of that committee. He asked
his committee members to meet at the field on May 7 th at 6pm to go over
their ideas.
10. The grub problem at the field was brought up again and Bruce Fletcher
said that he would find a landscaper who would solve this problem for us.
The members authorized him to spend up to $500. to solve this problem.
Bruce also thought that he could get some loam donated by a company so
as to repair the low spot at the rear, south end of the runway.
11. On another note, Jay Massei was authorized by the present members to
purchase another canopy from Harbor Freight for the racetrack area. This
canopy will be used along with another picnic table for that area.
12. The President was approached by one of the Laconia airport personnel and
asked if we would like to participate in their annual Planes, Cars, Trucks
Event at the airport on May 17 th . 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. It was decided by the
group that we could have a table at the event to promote our club. The
members could bring some of their prize aircraft and/or racing autos to
show off. This could interest potential new members to join our club. We
were told that attendance at this event in the past has been very good.
13. Last on the agenda was the spring barbeque. It was decided that the
barbeque will be held in conjunction with next month’s meeting on Sunday
June 1 st . Bruce Buckingham will be asked if he will again be the chef.
14. It was motioned and seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 11:05 am.
